                                                                Alice (Walsh) Buie

I love these two photos as it is easy to see the family connection between Alice (Moran) Sullivan and her granddaughter Alice (Walsh) Buie.

Grandchildren inherit roughly 25% of their DNA from each grandparent. That’s a significant portion, enough to pass along traits like facial structure, hair type, eye color.

These two women could pass as sisters. Both have the same shaped face and similarly structured cheekbones. Their noses are quite similar--straight and not overly prominent. Eye shape and spacing are alike as are their eyebrows.

Alice (Moran) Sullivan was born on May 5 1839 Knock Brannagh, Co.Carlow Ireland to Patrick Moran and Eliza Tobin. She was one of 10 children. Around 1840, the family emigrated to Wellington County, Ontario. In February 1866, Alice married Timothy Sullivan (1838-1914) They had eight children and farmed just outside Elora. They had eight children, Alice died in Elora on March 12, 1916 and she and Timothy are buried in the Elora Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Timothy & Alice Sullivan

Elizabeth Sullivan was the third oldest of Timothy and Alice's children. She was born November 12, 1870 in Arthur Township, Wellington County. On January 11, she married Michael Joseph Walsh. They had five children before Elizabeth died on January 6, 1912 in the childbirth of her twin daughters.

Alice Grace Walsh, born December 14 1907 in Guelph Township, was the second oldest child and oldest daughter. She married Willis Buie (1907-1994) on August 19, 1944 in Guelph. Alice and Willis had no children. She died April 8, 2001 in Mississauga. They are buried in Assumption Catholic Cemetery. Mississauga, Ontario.
