#29 FAMILY DNA
FAMILY ETHNICITY INHERITED
One of the features of an Ancestry.ca DNA test is an estimate of ethnicity.
According to Ancestry: To figure out your ethnicity regions, we compare your DNA to a reference panel made up of DNA from groups of people who have deep roots in one region. We look at 1,001 sections of your DNA and assign each section to the ethnicity region it looks most like. Then we turn those results into the percentages you see in your estimate. Your genetic link to these ethnicities can go back hundreds of years or even more.

Half of one's DNA comes fromm each parent. Ancestry can now determine paternal and maternal connections.
This following graph shows the DNA given by each of my parents. From Mom comes my Finnish ethnicity. (Finns belong to a unique genetic group of their own.) From Dad comes a mix of Germanic, British, and a dab of Irish.
STEVE'S DNA ETHNICITY RESULTS need little interpretation--totally Irish from both his Mom and Dad!!
Everyone gets half their DNA from each parents. This also means that half of each parent's DNA is not inherited. 50% of one's DNA is random so siblings do not have identical DNA and may have different ethnicity percentages.
